Technical visit New!

Thursday 5th, at 16:30

A technical visit will take place on 5 June, from 16:30 to 18:30. There will be five activities available, but it will only be possible to participate in one of them, as they will take place simultaneously. Some activities will have limited capacity, so a form will be sent out in a few weeks so that they can be ordered according to preference. The final assignation of one activity or another will be made taking into account both the available capacity and the order of registration.

I3A

Laboratory of Termochemical Processes, Rafael Bilbao (LPT)

These laboratories bring together a range of infrastructures at different Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), focused on the thermochemical treatment of various waste types such as lignocellulosic biomass, black liquor, sewage sludge, textiles, plastics, etc. The facilities support processes including torrefaction, pyrolysis, gasification, aqueous phase reforming (APR), and combustion, as well as the production of biofuels such as biodiesel and SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel).

BSH Laboratory (GEPM)

Power electronics aims to process electrical energy as efficiently as possible. The Power Electronics and Microelectronics Group is developing new power electronic converters for applications such as electric vehicles, induction cookers, and biomedical devices. This visit will provide an overview of these applications, current research lines, and the history of commercial induction cookers developed in collaboration with the BSH Group (Balay).

Motostudent UNIZAR

MotoStudent is an international competition where teams of students from around the world take on the challenge of designing and developing a prototype racing motorcycle similar to those in the Moto3 World Championship. This activity includes a presentation of the project developed at the University of Zaragoza and a tour of the laboratories where the prototypes are designed and tested.

Philosophy and Arts Building

The Faculty of Philosophy and Arts completed its extension and refurbishment in 2023, becoming a benchmark in sustainability and architectural innovation, as certified by BREEAM. The renovation preserved the historical values of the original building while integrating innovative solutions to optimize energy consumption: geothermal energy (Canadian well system), two vapor compression heat pumps, an adsorption chiller, hybrid solar and photovoltaic panels, and the use of natural, healthy materials.

District DHC

Built for EXPO 2008, the district heating and cooling (DHC) network supplies hot and cold water (for heating, domestic hot water, and cooling) to the buildings of the Zaragoza international exhibition site. The system currently operates with four vapor compression chillers, two natural gas-fired fire-tube boilers, and a photovoltaic installation. The operation of the system will be explained during the visit.

THERMONATOR, thermodynamic calculations on your phone

This seminar will introduce Thermonator, a free Android app developed for learning Thermodynamic Engineering. With a clear educational focus, Thermonator quickly calculates the properties of states, processes, and cycles, and presents the results in an updated graphical interface. As a learning tool, it offers detailed explanations of thermodynamic concepts and step-by-step solutions. During the session, various configuration features will be demonstrated through practical examples, and the app’s potential in academic settings will be discussed.

Accommodation

There are a number of excellent hotels to choose from in Zaragoza to suit your budget and personal preferences. The best way to get to the congress is to take the L1 tram line from the city center to the WTCZ building.
